Jon Cornforth offers private nature photography workshops. These 1-3 client adventures allow you to learn from an award-winning professional nature photographer in a focused and collaborative way. Tours include several days of shooting, discussion of composition and technique, review of your work, and advice on marketing your images. You will learn to use dynamic weather, wildlife migrations, and seasonal conditions to create incredible images. Jon’s mantra is, “We can sleep and eat when we get home!”

Jon’s base rate for a private workshop is $450/day, plus expenses. Each additional client will be charged $150/day, for a maximum of 3 clients. Lodging and food expenses depend on the location, but can vary from camping in a tent and eating on a stove to staying in a hotel/lodge with restaurants nearby. Jon also owns a 16’ travel trailer and 22’ powerboat, which can be used for your custom trip for an additional charge.

Jon can lead you to remote locations in Alaska, the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, California, Utah, British Columbia, Yukon, Baja Mexico, Patagonia in South America, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Remote river-rafting expeditions, desert canyon & mountain backpacking trips, wildlife safaris, and underwater critter encounters are all possibilities for your next trip. Please contact Jon to discuss your next photography adventure.

"Jon's workshop offers an opportunity very different from the standard 6-12 participant experience. It's a smaller and more intimate setting, where your questions are always answered, and there's a natural give-and-take between you. Traveling as a small group offers a flexibility that I learned is essential to nature photography. He has a keen sense of timing built over years spent in the field. We were able to travel from site to site and change our itinerary on a daily basis, all while we watched the upcoming weather and satellite forecasts. If you sign up for a workshop with Jon, you will become a nature photographer for the time you are with him. By the end of our trip, I felt that my knowledge and expertise had taken a giant leap forward, and I am forever changed as a photographer because of it. Jon is also really funny! He will entertain you with many stories from his travels, so you will never be bored on a hike."

- Nick Gorevic of Brooklyn, NY traveled with Jon to Southern Utah in December 2007.

"Jon is an excellent teacher and a stunning photographer. His teaching style, learn by doing, has made me more comfortable using my camera and ingrained in me a new sense of composition, lighting, and patience for the perfect image. He taught me how to edit my photos in Aperture and Photoshop with the experience and authority gained through years of being a pro.  He also introduced me to a handful of other inspiring professional nature photographers. His passion and dedication to his work, combined with the lengths he will go to get a photo, is an experience worth having. In addition to being a wonderful teacher, he is a fun and engaging guy to spend time with."

- Sarah Short of Seattle, WA studied photography with Jon from December 2007 to March 2008 as part of her self-directed college requirement.

"Jon worked with Ross and I to tailor a photography adventure that let us focus on our interests.  We knew we wanted an experience that was representative of a day in the life of a professional nature photographer. Jon suggested some of his favorite Washington locations and handled all of the logistics so that we could focus on learning how to create gallery quality images.  Jon's teaching style was that of a mentor-student while he was with us every minute of the day. He helped us develop a vision for our shots and made sure we executed them to the best of our ability.  An added bonus was that Jon was an excellent guide and companion who genuinely seemed to be enjoying himself."

- Mark Teskey of Minneapolis, MN joined Jon for a private photography workshop on the Olympic Coast of Washington in April 2008. Please read his blog entries Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 to learn more about his workshop experience.
