The Brandt's cormorant (Phalacrocorax penicillatus) is a strictly marine bird of the cormorant family of seabirds that inhabits the Pacific coast of North America. It ranges, in the summer, from Alaska to the Gulf of California. Brandt's Cormorants feed either singly or in flocks, and are adaptable in prey choice and undersea habitat. They have been observed foraging at depths of over 40 feet. The red-faced cormorant (Phalacrocorax urile) is a species of cormorant that is found in the far north of the Pacific Ocean and Bering Sea. The red-faced cormorant is closely related to the pelagic cormorant (Phalacrocorax pelagicus) which has a similar range. Where it nests alongside the pelagic cormorant, the red-faced cormorant generally breeds more successfully of the two species, and it is currently increasing in numbers.
