Laguna San Ignacio Gray Whale Photography Tour

Southwest of San Ignacio in central Baja Mexico lies a large bay used from January-March of each year by calving gray whales. The whales here stay close to shore and often exhibit friendly and curious behaviors like seeking out tactile encounters (petting and scratching) with humans. The whales have been know to play hide and seek with boats, later extending their heads out of the water to see the reaction to their antics. These conditions provide a great opportunity for photographers and whale enthusiasts to win stunning images of these fascinating and reclusive creatures.

I use only locally owned tour operators.  You will gain regional insights into the whales’ activities. Using these outfittters also ensures that money spent photographing whales go to support the local economy. Plus, the food is better!
